Command reference ยท Claude Code

/cost

Alias for /usage.

/cost is, according to the reference table, literally an "Alias for /usage". When you call /cost, the same view opens as with /usage: the session block at the top shows the token usage of the current session, which Claude Code calculates locally from token counts at list prices โ€” without promotional pricing or contract discounts. For binding billing, the doc points to the usage page in the Claude Console. On Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plans, the view additionally shows plan usage limits, activity statistics, and a breakdown by skill, subagent, plugin, and MCP server. Since version 2.1.211, these totals reset to $0 on every /clear; before that, they kept accumulating over the entire process runtime. Besides /cost, there is a second alias, /stats, which jumps directly to the stats tab of the same view.

โœ… WHEN TO USE IT?

Check costs quickly

Type /cost without having to remember the actual command name /usage.

Compare usage against the plan limit

As a Pro or Max subscriber, call /cost to see plan usage limits and activity statistics at a glance.

โ›” WHEN NOT TO?

Expecting standalone functionality

According to the doc, the command is just an alias, not a separate command with different behavior.

Better: Use /usage directly, or /stats for the stats tab of the same view.

Wanting to read binding billing figures

The dollar amount shown is calculated locally from token counts at list prices and can differ from the actual invoiced amount.

Better: For binding billing, open the usage page in the Claude Console.
