Command reference ยท Cursor CLI

/fast

Toggles Fast mode, when the current model supports it.

/fast switches to a faster response tier, provided the currently active model supports this Fast mode according to the docs. The command doesn't select a model itself, but acts additionally on the model that's already set โ€“ whether Fast is actually available depends on the model currently running. Like the model family shortcuts (e.g. /opus), /fast can be disabled under "Model slash commands" in /config if you don't want to trigger the toggle via command. /fast also isn't in the main reference table of slash commands on the Cursor docs page yet, but is only documented via the CLI changelog entry from July 6, 2026, which introduces it together with /opus and the other model shortcuts.

โœ… WHEN TO USE IT?

Respond faster with a supported model

/fast

Activate Fast mode for a quick follow-up question

/fast, before asking a quick clarifying question that doesn't need deep analysis

โ›” WHEN NOT TO?

The current model doesn't support Fast mode

According to the docs, /fast only has an effect if the model offers the mode.

Better: choose a model that supports Fast
