Command reference ยท Claude Code

/chrome

Opens the settings for 'Claude in Chrome'.

/chrome opens the settings for the connection between Claude Code and the "Claude in Chrome" browser extension. From there you check the connection status, reconnect the extension, choose between multiple connected browsers, or enable Chrome by default for future sessions. According to the docs, this requires a direct Anthropic subscription (Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise) and signing in via /login; with a plain API key or a long-lived token from claude setup-token, the integration stays disabled. The feature isn't available via third-party providers like Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Foundry, nor under Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). Supported are Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and other Chromium browsers like Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, and Opera. You start actual browser control with the --chrome flag or by simply asking Claude directly in the prompt.

โœ… WHEN TO USE IT?

Check connection status before a browser task

Run /chrome and check that 'Status: Enabled' and 'Extension: Installed' are shown before Claude tests in the browser.

Enable Chrome permanently

Open /chrome and choose 'Enabled by default' so the --chrome flag is no longer needed going forward.

โ›” WHEN NOT TO?

Free-plan account without a direct subscription

According to the docs, /chrome requires a direct Anthropic subscription (Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise); the integration stays disabled with a plain API key or third-party provider.

Better: Switch to a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan and sign in via /login.

Just having a webpage read or summarized

/chrome only opens the extension's settings; simple reading or searching the web doesn't require visible browser control.

Better: Ask Claude directly in the prompt to read a URL or search the web โ€” Claude uses built-in web tools for that, no dedicated slash command needed.
